Dr. Jay McLaughlin awarded NIDA grant to study new pain medicines

Jay McLaughlin, Ph.D., a professor of pharmacodynamics, is part of a multi-university research team recently awarded a NIDA R33 grant entitled, “pharmacological probes based on mitragynine pseudoindoxyl.”

This grant will address the unmet need for new, safer analgesics by developing novel mitragynine analogs. The approach is based on current and advanced molecular and neurobiological understanding of the pathology of pain and drug addictions.
