About Anutosh Chakraborty

Anutosh Chakraborty has a broad background in cell and molecular biology, signal transduction and energy metabolism. He earned his Ph.D. at The Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, India, and performed postdoctoral research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with Prof. Solomon Snyder. Prior to joining the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, he worked as a faculty at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), Florida and Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Missouri. His laboratory focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms that cause obesity and obesity-induced metabolic diseases. The discoveries from his lab may offer new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of metabolic diseases. His group has shown that the inositol pyrophosphate biosynthetic enzyme IP6K1 facilitates development and progression of obesity, insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). They validated this enzyme as a pharmacological target in these diseases. They also demonstrated the metabolic roles of an E3 ubiquitin ligase Ube4A. The long-term goal is to discover hitherto unknown metabolic and signaling functions of novel proteins and investigating their impact as therapeutic targets. Being a PI on multiple NIH-R01 and Institute-funded grants, he has supervised several students and Postdoctoral Fellows and published in leading journals. He serves in various NIH study sections and institutional committees, and he is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC). He has been teaching several courses on energy metabolism, signal transduction, metabolic diseases and grant writing.
