Welcome to the Pain and Addiction, Drug Discovery and Development site at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Our collaborative team is composed of faculty from multiple departments: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, and Pharmacodynamics. We are interested in the discovery of novel targets and drugs to combat pain and drug addiction. Our expertise is broad, to include small molecule and peptide synthesis, comprehensive DMPK analyses of drug candidates, and preclinical models of pain and drug addiction. We are funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. Our expertise and funded projects cover a wide range, from different classes of pain medications (opioids and cannabinoids), abused drugs (alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, opioids, and stimulants), natural products (Cannabis and Mitragyna), and receptor targets for the treatment of pain and drug addiction (opioid, cannabinoid, neuropeptide, adrenergic, and sigma receptors).
